Hey everybody, I know it’s been a while, but I have a proposition.  I mentioned this to everyone who was at our little camping reunion this summer, but I want to make it official.  As most of you know, I have been involved at the International House of Prayer in KC for the past 8 or 9 months.  What you may not know is that every year for the few days preceding New Years day, IHOP puts on a (free) huge national young adult conference in one of our city’s downtown convention centers.  It’s called the OneThing Conference and it consists of three days of teaching and worship led by IHOP intercessory missionaries and guest speakers/artists (Shane and Shane were there last year) culminating with an auditorium filled with young adults ringing in the new year while proclaiming Jesus’ name.  I would like to invite all of you old Wheaties (you know who you are) to visit KC and partake in the festivities.  I am currently living in a house with a few other guys in south KC and would love to provide lodging for anyone who is interested in coming to the conference.  If a lot of people decide to come, my parents also live in the KC area and I have several friends who I’m sure would love to help me host you.

Besides the obvious selfish reasons I might present for your coming, I also want to add that I received a lot from the OneThing conference last year, and I believe it is a great place to recharge your spiritual batteries before starting the new year, especially if you might, for instance, plan to embark on extended travels abroad in the near future (wink wink nudge nudge you know who you are.)  It’s also encouraging to witness first hand that there are still twentysomethings in America who take Christ seriously in the midst of a dying church and a disillusioned generation (You know who you are).  IHOP is also a compelling study in intentional community based around shared values and simple living (you know who you are).  And if nothing listed above puts a burr in your saddle another good reason is that I FREAKING MISS YOU PEOPLE AND I WANT TO SEE YOU!

That said, if you want more info,  check out ihop.org and the OneThing page and/or contact me with questions.

By the way, this is a pretty open invitation.  If you find yourself wondering “I wonder if Scotty would want me to come” the answer is probably yes.  If you’re cruising xanga and thinking, “Hmm this Kurzie fellow sounds gullible. Maybe I can take advantage of his hospitality and plunder his belongings.” The answer is probably no.  So unless you are the latter example, spread the word, plan road trips/flights and let me know who is coming!

See you on the 28th

“There is a story about what once happened when Charles Finney toured a textile mill in New York State. As he walked through the mill, he approached a woman operating a loom. As he came toward her, she stopped her work. As he came closer, she began to tremble, As he came still closer, she erupted in tears and finally fell to her knees and cried out to God for mercy; and Finney had not yet spoken a word. How often have we had just the opposite experience: hearing someone speak a multitude of words and not being moved at all? What accounts for the difference between a man who says nothing, yet brings a woman under conviction, and one who says much, yet leaves us unaffected? The answer lies, largely in part if not entirely, in the fact that the truth is in us, and we in it, only to the degree that we actually walk in it.”

I got my car back yesterday, whoohoo!  And, after driving it around all last night, I'm pretty confident that it is back in working order, so I think I'm going to try and salvage the Wheaton/Chicago road trip that I was kept back from all week.  Hopefully most of you that I made tenative plans with will have some availibility this weekend, which will be my last free chunk of time before I have work and the second half of my internship.  So, the plan is that I drive out tonight (probably arrive 8-9ish) and drive back on monday.  Feel free to call me on my cell to wake me up as I'm driving.  Also call me if you want to solidify any plans while I'm in the area.  Since my car situation was kind of last minute, and I haven't had time to talk with many of you since it was finished, I'm sort of taking it on faith that some of you will be around and availible, so don't dissapoint me!  I'll be staying with David.
Can't wait to reconnect!

I Kings, ESV.

So, My car broke down yesterday, and my mechanic still hasn't figured out what's wrong with it. All I know is that it will probably be expensive to even continue diagnostics because they think the problem is somewhere on the drive train, and my engine isn't easy to access. I could use prayers being that I just bought the car and it may have totaled itself. Sadly, in addition the the general suckiness of being suddenly carless, unless the guys at the mechanic shop come up with a brilliant solution this weekend, It doesn't look like I'll be able to visit all you guys and gals in Wheaton and Chicago like I had planned. Although consequently, I'll probably have plenty of time to hang out with friends in KC this week (assuming you can pick me up) until the second half of my internship starts March 31.

O Majesty unspeakable, my soul desires to behold Thee. I cry to Thee from the dust.
Yet when I inqure after Thy name it is secret. Thou art hidden in the light which no man can approach unto. What Thou art cannot be thought or uttered, for Thy glory is ineffable.
Still, prophet and psalmist, apostle and saint have encouraged me to believe that I may in some measure know Thee. Therefore, I pray, whatever of Thyself Thou hast been pleased to disclose, help me to search out as treasure more precious than rubies or the merchandise of fine gold: for with Thee shall I live when the stars of the twilight are no more and the heavens have vanished away and only Thou remainest.
Amen.
